Brimont was a specialist trailer manufacturer, founded in 1949, which started low volume production of 4X4 vehicles in the 1960s. But the firm ceased operations in 1996, after repeated efforts to compete with other off road specialists such as the Mercedes Unimog. Several French fire services were Brimont customers for several years, preferring a French make to the imported Unimog and MAN forest fire trucks - which came later to dominate many of their fleets.
Like many other small specialist firms, Brimont was ultimately never able to generate enough sales to be able to afford the investment funds needed to update their products to compete with much larger mainstream manufacturers.
