Eight of FDNY's 190 engine companies' pumpers are these high pressure units with three stage pumps. They carry special extra high pressure hoses to supply high rise dry risers in the event of problems with buildings' built in pumping systems.

They are also fully functional in two stage mode as "normal" duty pumpers, but have a total volume capacity a bit higher than the majority of the regular 1000 and 1500 GPM rated units.
