St. Louis Fire Department -- Engine 11In 1987 the St. Louis Fire Department went through a major reorganisaton. Pressured by the city fathers to eliminate firefighters' jobs, Chief Neil Svetanics managed to avoid layoffs by proposing what is now referred to as Quint Concept. In essence, a conventional pumper (or engine) is fitted with an aerial device, and the crew members are cross-trained to perform both engine and truck company tasks. Pictured is the 2nd generation of St. Louis Quints, Engine 11 serving as a pumper at the hydrant.

Pump Operator would be out of sight, at his Pump Panel on LH side of the Truck.
It is different to see both Pumpers at scene which are fitted as Aerials.
Quints are the ARP/CARP 's mentioned in the sometimes vigorous UK debate, (the word CRAP has been deployed) elsewhere on this 'Site....
I had read up on East St Louis "going Quint" in FireHouse mag; but didn't realize that Quints had been around so long.
Thanks, Lou, for a very informative Picture and Caption.
