1970 Ford D400 ex QFS Fleet 328As requested by Pavel here is a final photo of my Ford D4oo pumper at its new home at the Toowoomba Fire Brigade Historical Society Museum at Highfields in Qld. This photo was taken by the new owner on the day it arrived. I hope this satisfies the curiosity of those members that asked how the restoration was going.

The canopy cab reminds me of the hundreds - if not thousands - of American tilt cab Ford C series appliances which had this feature. The canopy and rear seat weighed next to nothing, so the tilt feature could be retained, and (relatively) safe seated accommodations provided for up to six crew members.
This has the characteristic Australian rear hose compartments flanking the pump, so that lines could be run out quickly, which is a modification of the US hose bed idea.
The only thing about this photo that puzzles me is the wheel color. I sold D series for years and never saw a single one with this shade of green wheels....
