One of the best chassis ever produced to receive a fire appliance body, stuck to the road like glue! My all time favourite to drive. Ours (berks & reading, Stn 2 ) was 999 DJB, I wonder what happened to it?

This is Danny Randalls appliance, keep showing her Danny and family.

I painted the white strip between the lever wheels when I was a fireman in Bangor. I used white gloss paint and covered it with road line marking reflective powder,

The White lever wheels were always painted Red.

Spent many hours cleaning her, not the best gear box. Hard work on hills, but was great going through Bangor's traffic. Note Hollands comments great operational officer with a sense of humor.

Every winter we had to completely drain the hosereels because of their exposed positions.
Snowchains had also to be fitted.
Driving CCC 129 with snowchains was a nightmare!

In early 1964 CCC 129 was involved in a collision with a car whilst responding to a fire call one Sunday morning. The off-side front of the body was badly damaged due to the glass fibre construction. She was sent to Braid Bros. garage in Colwyn Bay for repairs. I remember going to collect her and because she had been totally stripped of all
equipment (she still carried the escape ladder) she flew along the old A55 road back to Bangor!
I remember bringing her through the small archway
in the Town walls in Conwy and thinking that she
would never clear the low arch!!
More tales of CCC 129 to come ~ watch this space!

The day I nearly modified the cross roads in
Llanfairfechan with CCC 129!!!
Station 10 was turned out to a PDA to 'Bryn-Y-Neaudd' mental hospital in Llanfairfechan.
I drove along the old A55 road and because of very heavy use of the brakes it caused severe brake fade. When we reached Llanfairfechan cross roads the traffic lights were red against us. When I applied the brakes nothing happened! In front of me was an Austin 1100 car. I thought 'This is it!' but luckily the lights turned to green! The 1100 moved away and I was just about able to take CCC 129 round the corner and down the hill with absolutely no brakes!!! I honestly thought that we would have crashed into the corner shop!!!
GOD works in mysterious ways ~ Amen!!!

The secret with starting CCC 129 from cold was NOT to touch the throttle pedal. You gave her full choke and pressed the starter button. If you blipped the throttle just once she would flood.

This happened on the night of the Britannia Tubular Railway Bridge fire on Saturday 23rd. May 1970 when one of the Retained men tried to start her. Water Tender BCC 503C had to turn out as the first attendance. CCC 129 followed on shortly after.

Whilst fighting a mountain fire 🔥 in Bangor the driver called on hand held radio , major fire in Asda super store Llandudno, which was 20miles away and we could see the smoke from Bangor. This was at the night of the summer season , so I requested a police escort to reach the fire ground the old water tender escape ccc129 flew like a bird allong what is now the A55 express way

As the youngest recruit to Bangor station I remember the journey to Asda well (June 1976). Very exciting for a young firefighter going to a make up so far away from your home station. It was unusual for the Wre to leave Bangors turnout area, but it was an extremely hot summer with many of the Llandudno and over the border Clwyd appliances out in Betwys y Coed on a forest fire. The TTL from Bangor was also sent (make pumps 6 TTL required)I would imagine this was the longest turnout journey that CCC129 ever made. Enter 'Asda fire Llandudno 1976 in google for a photograph of the incident.
