Rodger, a Magirus ladder in the USA. I imagine there would not have been too many of these getting around the States?

Pav, you are right; there were few of the Magirus aerials used here in the U.S, Gulf Shores, Alabama was probably the last to use one. The U.S. also had a few of the Dutch Geesink aerials in use.

FDNY had a few in the 60s with full crew cabs.

The Gulf Shores was not new to Gulf Shores. It was a trade in to a firm that build duck type boat-fire apparatus by the Milwaukee Fire Department. Milwaukee has two Mack Magirus ladders as well as a third B-Model Mack on which their 1928 Magirus wood ladder set was installed. The M-M that went to Gulf Shores later went to a collector in Florida. It has since been returned to the Milwaukee Fire Department Museum. Chicago had two Model L Mack Magirus ladder and FDNY also had two.

Milwaukee had 2 of those aerials (both 30 meters / 100ft) delivered in 1957, 2 years later in 1959 another 6 Magirus aerials on a Mack chassis (4x 30 meters and 2x 44 meters) were delivered to the Chicago Fire Department. I think one CFD 44 meters has survived (privately owned). FDNY had 2 units with a 44m aerial, unfortunately they didn't survive since their aerials were replaced with 30m Grove aerials on the Mack chassis. Think the only Magirus ladders were all build on a Mack chassis (Mack imported the ladders from Germany). These days afaik there aren't any Magirus ladders used or sold in the US, however some European aerials are being sold these days as the American division of Rosenbauer sells their Metz ladder as the Rosenbauer Raptor in the USA. (Metz is virtually the second biggest aerial manufacturar in Europe)

At te interschutz Magirus launched their M34 L-H "heavy duty ladder"build bij NFPA standards. I think with this one they are also aiming at the North American market
