Dennis PE etc.I (25) am kneeling in traditional fire kit and Fm John Coulter is modelling the proposed new. The leggings and jacket were approved but the helmet proved unstable. Taken in March 1966 in front of our Dennis Pump Escape in the engine house at the (now closed) Albion Street Fire Station B11. The Dennis PE was quite a long machine and one really had to pull it around (no power steering of course) on leaving the station as there was a nasty brick wall opposite! This pic shows the nearside pump operating panel (one on each side with three deliveries each side too). The alloy collecting head, priming and pressure guages etc. Three instantaneous wheel-valved outlets, hose reel control valve (the wheel on the left of panel. Who remembers 6,10,4,2,12)? Tank direct filler inlet & hose reel pressure guage. Two suction wrenches below in clips. John is holding a 'London' branch of which two were carried together with other types. Birmingham hose had free-wheeling female instantaneous couplings so in the (unlikely) event of hose becoming twisted, it didn't knot up but unwound itself as the hose was charged with water - all excellent stuff!
