Commer 42A foam tender 1019 MX London

1960s Photo by Norman Tarling This was transferred from Middlesex to London in 1965. It carried 700 gallons of foam compound in 5-gallon drums. The bodywork is often attributed to Waldegrave but the appliance was delivered by Dennis in July 1962. I am grateful to Roger Mardon for this information. I know of no other reference to Waldegrave as a fire appliance builder. Google has a reference to a firm in Teddington.

John Nadal's recent book on London's Fire Engines implies that the bodywork is by Middlesex Fire Brigade. By the way he spells it Waldergrave. There is still a Waldergrave motor engineer in Teddington which I think is same company that built specials for Middlesex FB in early 1960s.

Emptying five gallon foam drums out of those three upper lockers must have been quite a task, despite the row of built-in steps!
