A Second Life
This fire engine once served with the San Francisco Fire Department, and now has a second life as a tour vehicle. This rig was built in 1955 and went into service with the SFFD in 1956. It served the SFFD for its entire life, and was finally taken out of service in 1984, in a career spanning 28 years. I was fortunate enough to ride on this truck on one of its tours, and I think it's great that such a precious vehicle lives on.

All-time rosters for SFFD motor rigs can be found at the guardians of the city website. No pumpers acquired in the 1950s made it to reserve duty in the 1980s except the infamous ALF 900 Turbo-Chief.Some US apparatus buffs feel that antique rigs are ruined by these conversions.

Cant really see an issue with it as it keeps it on the road nstead of being hidden away , only real modification is a few benches on the hose bed , can be very quickly and inexpensively returned to duty condition , as for its past history I beleive there were many mack b pumpers in use in the san francisco area including volounteer brigades but I agree none with city service
