Fire Engines Photos

Richard,
Superb image, something different on this site.
A flying appliance in action.

Steve

Yes... I made a mistake there.
That is, in the past we didn't allow for 'flying appliances' as we have a dedicated aircraft site. It is also difficult to determine whether an aircraft used to fight fire was actually a purpose built appliance (or just a helicopter with a bucket).
But I am open to suggestions... what do our other contributors and visitors think?

Marcel, could they not be put on both sites, or is that not technically possible?

Marcel,
I think this image deserves to be on the site, because the turbo-prop powered Canadair 415 is one of the only aircraft in the world specifically designed as a fire bomber.
During the dry season in North America many types of aircraft are adapted as fire bombers but not the CL-415 which was developed from the piston powered CL-215, also a fire bomber.
The CL-415 carries 6130 litres of water and has an onboard foam mixer, being amphibious it is able to fill its water tank by skimming across lakes, rather than landing each time.
I believe that the foregoing information clearly supports your decision to allow the image on your site.
Regards,
Steve

Marcel, I agree. The site includes fire services' ambulances, as well as fire boats, so why not firefighting aircraft and helicopters? I must admit to a strong bias here, because I know some of the Marseille Marins-Pompiers and I have enormous respect for the tremendously difficult job they have to do, to protect the outskirts of that city.

As a certified wildland firefighter - I am happy to see this photo on this site - even though I am a fire truck guy through and through. This pic fits right in, no doubt.

Thank you all for the feedback. I'll add an album 'Aircraft', but will try to restrict it to 'flying appliances' :)

Dear fellow fire fighters

I have some more pics of Canadairs, Trakkers and Dash 8 in action. Anyone interested can contact me.

Richard,
I have no doubt that your other images are as good as this one, it would be good to see a Dash 8 water-bombing.
Also if you have an image of a Sikorsky Sky Crane water bombing then I am sure plenty of viewers would be impressed.
Best wishes,
Steve

Thanks Steve for your comment. I will post them when I am back from my trip to Riyadh. All the best; Richard
