Time to buy some powered roof racks for these ladders and other roof-mounted items!

These days they are to be found all over Europe and North America, and they do make life both much easier and a lot safer...

And of course make yet more money for the manufacturers/suppliers !..what is wrong with ladders on rollers and gantries relying on a pull or a push and gravity ?..minimal maintainence equally minimal 'downtime'whilst awaiting a new relay/ solenoid or 'flim flam valve' for the new powered gantry !...as I've said before lets stick with stuff that is proven..like the ping pong ball in a tube of water as a tank gauge !

Speed, safety and proven reliability in many countries over the past twenty years. (There are dual systems in case of any problems.) And gravity won't get anything back up there!

Of course, there was nothing wrong with manual pumps until steamers were invented. Steamers were fine too, until motor pumps turned up.

And leather and canvas hoses were perfectly okay - in their time, which has now passed.

A heavy brass helmet was all you needed in a smoke-filled room, as long as you wet your beard and stuffed it in your mouth to filter the air you were breathing.

Braidwood bodies were also quite fine, sitting sideways on equipment lockers as you bounced along the street in the rain or snow, not to mention ash framed cabs which came apart in accidents like a cardboard cereal box...

But there is always progress, and anything which makes the job easier or safer is a good thing - until we get to the day when fires are a thing of the past, too...
