This engine was delivered to the Fire Department Frankfurt to test the vehicle for future acquisitions. However I think it wasn't a positive result, small details and spare-parts were issues, and this remained the only Dennis in service in Frankfurt.

was there not a green painted one in germany also? I am sure I seen a photo some where
Sorry, but there are exceptions to the rule, The "Bundeswehr", German Armed Forces, uses Fire appliances in both Red and Green, sometimes even on the same vehicle. Also that the former "Bundesgrenzschutz" (Fedral Border Police), now known as the "Bundespolizei" (Fedral Police), used at least one Mercedes-Benz Unimog 2450L38 as a TroTLF, it carried 1, 500 liters of water and 500kg of dry powder, and was painted in "Minzgruner" (Mint Green), and was used at their Helicopter bases. There is a picture of it on page 112 of "Feurwehr-Fahrzeugtechnik heute. Band 2" by Raab-Bunzel-Stiehl published by EFB in 1999
Private and airport fire services also have some leeway as far as colors are concerned. But Dennis' belated and halfhearted effort to sell fire trucks in Germany was aimed at municipal fire services, which were restricted by the DIN regulations to either traditional red or "hellrot" - with white accents (as pictured above) if desired.
The main reason Dennis was so late to the party is that they had no diesel power units with a service and parts network in Germany. Neither RR, AEC nor Perkins had any real capabilities, and the same was also true for many other components.
Even today, there are very few fire trucks with German municipal fire services which originated in other countries. There are a few Scanias, and possibly a Volvo or two, but that's about all.
That's a good policey, buy from your own manufacturer's, pity it went to pot over here. There are some Range Rover and Land Rover VRW's (Vorasrustwagen=Light Rescue Tender) and the odd Mitsubishi personel carrier but I think these are proberley one off's. Oh and Hamburg Airport had a Dodge Cheeter/Rosenbauer RIV.
Hi Rob, Chris and Mick!During the WWII, the green was for the Feuer Lösch Polizei(Fire Police), and the armed forces vehicles was gray.To day the german airforce has both red and camoflage colored vehicles! The Mint Green is, as you mention Chris for the Bundespolizei, and not only for CRT:s at the helicopterbases. They can be seen as Wasserwerfer(watercanon)at the riots in Germany in the 80´s and 90´s!I was looking at the website for the firebrigade in Frankfurt a couple days ago, and accordning to that, they still have the Dennis in ther fleet!!The site is:feuerwehr-frankfurt.de Go to 1;Fahrzeuge, 2;Löschfahrzeuge BF, 3;HLF Dennis! There you can read all about it!I don´t know, if the side is in german only!!
