ExWest Sussex Fire Brigade Dennis D WrL MPO55J seen arriving at one of the East Sussex Fire Brigade's fire festivals at Bently Wildfowel and Motor Museum in 1994
One of three operated by the West Sussex County Fire Brigade during the years of 1970-1971 in Coventry Fire Brigade Yellow. MPO 55J being operated first pump from Maltravers Drive Littlehampton, all of these D Series appliances were repainted during their life to traditional fire engine red. EPX 903H based at the Wharf fire station Midhurst as first pump was placed on Driver Training Duties during the early months of 1978 in doing so it was repainted traditional red for the role, MPO55J was repainted in early 1980 and for a very brief period returned to Littlehampton as their second appliance with a Dennis R130 WrL OTR 212S being the first appliance. Storringtons D Series the second delivery of this model to the brigade based at school hill Storrington was involved in minor road accident very early in 1976. The appliance had heavy front damage and was returned to Dennis at Guildford Surrey for insurance repairs in doing so the T.M.O instructed Dennis to repaint back to conventional red livery and this was done with the appliance returning to the station in the March of that year and spending its remaining service in red. It is thought that MPO55J is the only surviving yellow D left of the batch of three the other two having been scrapped.
