1978 Dennis R133/Dennis new to Stn 12 Horsham until 1979, then to Stn 19 Midhurst until 1989 then spare appliance until 1994 then went OOS.I thought the grill was standard to most of these 'R'Series?.
Pete - It may have been standard, but that does not mean it did anything to improve their appearance! The previous F series had a similar fiberglass cowl with a painted horizontal bar grille, which looked quite nice...
As the person who sold the first D series HCB Angus appliances to Gloucestershire, I have to be the first to admit that function trumps style when it comes to fire appliances, and those Fords were among the ugliest beasts ever pit into service. The later ones looked much better!
But I do think this "effort" by Dennis was a retrograde step, just like the wire mesh coffee strainer grille they fitted to the F8s which were built with Alfred Miles bodywork after Dennis bought them.
