Thanks roy. I know who you sold it to, I brought it for £2500 nearly two years ago. still in good condtion and working order pumps like a dream. did you buy it from kent fire brigade?
I always wondered why some body builders designed so many of these forward control Commers without front cab doors. Was it a cost saving? The original chassis was specifically intended to provide easy access to the front seats, with the front axle set well back, and many fire engines were built including front doors. I know that it was relatively easy to get into the front seats from behind - because of the low height of the slant six engine, but why create an access issue when there was no need? We had two Commers in my hometown fleet in Darlington, one Carmichael and one Whitson. Both had front doors, which allowed them to have four CA BA sets mounted on a half bulkhead behind the front seats, so crew members could don them en route to a call. This would have been impossible without front cab doors!
Adam, last time I saw RKR194 it was stored in a barn near Mersham, the then owner (whom had bought it from Mark) had done a good rewiring job on it, Dave Denne ran a private fire company, he had a good selection of vehicles including an ex Deal RS, 2 older K1, s non runners were unfortunately scrapped when I think his parking place lease expired, i don, t recall where he bought RKR194, Regards Roy.

The 1998 picture shows RKR194 carrying a 105 wooden , Baily ladder (may have an original reg number on it) of which I fitted to conform to Cliffe Retained working, when I bought RKR194 it carried a 135 old steel ladder, i believe that was scrapped at Deal too.

The person I brought it off got it from mark and carried out a lot of restoration work on her. He had it for years and due to ill health he had to sale her and a green goodess and f8
I know all 3 vehicles they were all based at Cte manston (Steve Shirlys) museum, the Green Goddess was very low mileage, the F8 needed restoration, be interested to know if it was driven to the barn near Ashford or trailered and if either have been sold.

What was the F8s reg? Was it Bowaters one, YRB612 /
That was one I bought from Bowaters when they closed the Nortfleet works brigade. Absolutely mint. I would love to know where another of my many F8s went. UAF339. I know where UAF338 is. Sold to a French museum (regrets).
