Although I do not think the factory crew cab used by Renault and Volvo is very well adapted to fire service use, it is nice to see a red fire engine once in a while, without a lot of refelective striping and bizarre decoration.
the lockers will throw the paint off in a few years once they react with the metal around and winter salt etc , gauranteed! still looks good at the moment and different
We have pretty salty weather here in Chicago too, with winter weather about the same as Moscow, but our trucks with their red roller shutter locker covers still look very good after anything up to 15 years of front line and reserve service and from 25, 000 to 40, 000 runs.
So I am sure the technology exists to have colored roller shutter lockers which will stand the test of time. US manufacturers do a whole range of locker cover colors as well as red. Swedish fire truck builders now seem to favor dark grey, and a lot of French apparatus is being delivered nowadays with reflective yellow shutters.
Perhaps this technology will eventually make its way to the UK. Then, British fire trucks can go back to being red and start looking like real fire appliances again - instead of giving the appearance of being made with recycled dust bins.
