London Fire Brigade H25 Biggin Hill Commer WrL SKE903. photo taken in 1965 just after the GLC take over hence vehicle is still in Kent Fire Brigade Livery but with London station Number!
Kent had a large fleet of Commers at the time, and were among several brigades which commissioned a design like this - which for some reason omitted the perfectly functional front doors. These had a low step height and provided excellent access and egress for the driver and officer, just like the contemporary Dennis fire engines as well as later offerings, including the Bedford TK and Ford D series...
Draping the hose reel along the rear body made it accessible from the ground, but rewinding it meant you needed someone on the roof. Not an ideal arrangement.
