I didn't know these had finally arrived Stuart.Do you know what stations their going to be allocated to mate?. Shame the brigade have done away with the blue/white popular livery that made West Sussex appliances stand out from all the other brigades. This appliance now looks like so many of the other brigades nation-wide, a typical red truck with standard Battenburg markings.
I have heard a rumour that STEYNING may receive a MAN appliance. There is a very steep slope down from the appliance room doors and the back-end of some appliances hit the top of the doorway! I agree with you Pete about the livery, but we may have to get used to more standardisation if county brigades are amalgamated.
Not a great fan of these big square cabs due to the ingress - egress with BA on but at least its better looking than some , for instance picture 34280 with its tiny wheels it looks frankly daft, bet they are roomy and quiet once in though , overall a nice looking machine with the chrome on the front and the neat design touches like the fluted panel on the rear cab, i agree about the colour scheme but if mergers do take place it helps to be the same, thing is if say england became like scotland a single service would they go for a standard fleet chassis , bet Dennis wish they had an order like that it might have kept them in the fire chassis business, and what would become of London Fire Brigade , there is a question
The orange beacon on the back suggests this particular machine will be allocated to a station near an airport. So Horley or Crawley, or Lancing or Shoreham come to mind. But Steyning's not that far from Shoreham airport either, so could be their's.
And I too find the demise of West Sussex's unique livery truly disappointing. Such a shame.
W Sussex have removed the pump from Horley, as a consequence Surrey have transferred a pump from Reigate to Horley. Crawley already have a MAN as their 3rd pump

I may have been responsible for the Steyning rumour, but that was when I thought these pair of MANs were going to be on 12 tonne chassis, not 15 tonnes, - I'm not convinced this would fit at Steyning, especially with the high orange light at the rear, so we shall have to wait and see. All the recent deliveries have had a red and oragne light at the rear so it's not such a good clue as in the past that it would be allocated to a station near an airport. And yes it is a shame about the livery, cost and standardisation winning the day. It certaily will not go to Horley as that has a Surrey Pump now after the recent changes!

Wouldn't be easier for the Boundary Commission to place Horley back in Surrey whence it came in 1974?
The latest that I've heard is that the 2 new 2013 MAN's will be allocated to Worthing and Crawley, with Worthing's 11 reg Scania being tranferred to Haywards Heath, and Crawley's 11 reg Scania being tranferred to East Grinstead.
The allocations & Re-allocations Pete mentions above are what I have heard also, the 04 Scania's at Haywards Heath & East Grinstead will move to the reserve fleet.
At Steyning's Summer Fair today I spoke to some retained firefighters: they confirmed that their "W" registered appliance will never be replaced by a new machine but they expected to have a Dennis Sabre passed down from a fulltime station. They did, however, think a new MAN might go to Burgess Hill, so watch this space!
I forgot to add in my last comment that a Scania has been tried in Steyning & 1 would fit with some sight modifications to the Amber & Red lights on the rear. A few years ago a Scania was tried in every station to see where they would & wouldnt fit. Only 1 station failed it could accept a Scania by kicking the L4T out.
A Sabre would fit in Steyning, an order for 3 WrL has just been placed. Don't be surprised if these MAN's get re-allocated once the 3 NEW trucks are delivered.
I would have to agree with you there Stuart. I spoke to a firefighter during Crawley's open day, and he said that no one liked them or got on with them and that because of that the order for more had fallen through.
He then said that he wouldn't be surprised if they where both replaced by the next batch of trucks.
An order has already been made for 2 new Scania's to replace these MAN's, which were actually a part of a consortium in conjuction with Kent Fire Brigade and manufactured to Kent Fire Brigade specifications. The brigade don't like them but are now stuck with them and I can't see them staying at the allocated station's of Worthing and Crawley for very long. They will I'm sure be moved onto other stations once the new order from Scania arrives.
As far as I'm aware Danny, Kent placed the main order and took the majority of that order, but, West Sussex as part of the consortium accepted to take 2 appliances. Its not as good as buy one and get one free, but the larger the order helps keep the price down a little.Lets be honest, most brigades today do not actually purchase fire engines, or have much say in what they get it seems, the local authorities(County Councils)do that and this is a way of again trying to save money.
Thanks Matt, that now solves everything and lets just hope the proposed stations in Kent like them, West Sussex certainly don't seem to. I've no further comment on this subject.
