ERF Hydraulic Platform SXD411L

This was owned by me for a couple of years - its a former ERF 84RS 85' HP from Bedfordshire Fire Brigade - they sold it to Co. Clare Fire Service in the Republic of Ireland (re registered 73 CE 33) and re engined to a Perkins diesel with an Auto box - it was originaly a Rolls royce B81 manual - wierd driving an auto but with a clutch still in place for the PTO !

It was stationed at Dunstable in Bedfordshire then Shannon in Co. Clare - they then had the 85' booms rechassied onto a 3 axle Volvo by GB fire who disposed of the chassis to an ERF enthusiast who I bought it from - Mark and I then extended the chassis and fitted a flat bed to use as a transporter (the chassis on the rear is a 1934 Leyland Cub RJ 2702 ex Salford)

We sold it a couple of years later - it was then reported to have been stolen from its new owner and has never been seen since ! - incidentally Bedfordshire sold it to Co. Clare but never did the paperwork for the sale so, the vehicle was on the DVLA database as belonging to Bedfordshire even through its service in Ireland - I believe the 'new appliance ' was rolled within weeks of returning to Ireland !! Can anyone confirm this ?

SXD411L was new to County Borough of Luton FB, and was stationed at Luton. I did my HP operators course on it. Yes it originally had a Rolls straight 8 petrol engine, but always had an auto box. I was only at Luton for two years, so don't know if it ever went to Dunstable. It was a beautiful machine to drive, and to see it in it's present state saddens me a lot.
