In the Netherlands more Fire department are buying water carriers. The reason is that in new build areas the capacity of the hydrants isn't enough. Another reason, the Fire department pay for the use of water. So options, more use of open water and water carriers.
The last option is also handy in the area where this Watercarrier is based, The Veluwe (large National Park)

So this is why Netherlands fire services use open water sources, even when there are hydrants right next to them! It never occurred to me that they had to pay for city water.... somehow, it seems a bit ridiculous? Fortunately, the country has a lot of ponds, lakes and canals.
