Actually, this unit is a 2010 Seagrave/Aerialscope 75' tower ladder. The distinguishing feature is the raised roof section above the crew section of the cab (with the number 15 on the door). The previous Tower Ladder 15 was indeed a 1999 model.
What is it about FDNY, I am always fascinated by their vehicles knowing that they are not the best designed trucks in the world by far, I am intrigued by their operating methods which, in my humble opinion often leave a lot to be desired but I like the FDNY! Great picture which depicts New York well I feel.

My understanding is that all FDNY Baker tower ladders are in fact 95 feet. The department used to run some 75 foot areialscopes many years ago, on two-axle Mack chassis.
The Seagrave chassis in the picture is also used for FDNY 100 foot rear-mount aerial ladders. The tower ladder's mid-mount turntable design does mean these are rather long, but it also makes them low enough to fit in many of New York City's 19th century firehouses!
AS far as design of FDNY trucks in general, the FDNY has very well-defined design parameters, and uses firefighter input extensively, so that the truck design reflects what firefighters in the field need and want.
From what I have seen on this site, UK fire services could learn a lot from adopting the same design philosophy, rather than acquiring vehicles which are too heavy, too slow or just not well adapted to perform the functions which are needed.
Thanks for your input Rob, but it would still be a monster if'n it reached 100'. However your comment about recent UK design howlers is bang on, without carping about a topic discussed elsewhere!
Are they called combined aerial rescue pumpers or combined rescue aerial pumpers? I guess the corresponding abbreviation depends on who you are talking to...
Bear in mind these larger American trucks do fit quite easily into our wider streets in most US cities, so they work very well over here - although they certainly would not be a good idea in the majority of British or European environments!
Gentlemen, If you would like to see good, general information about several FDNY apparatus, go to Seagrave's website and click on "Recent Deliveries". As you scroll down the page, FDNY has several apparatus including High Pressure Pumpers, Tiller Aerial Ladders, and 2 Aerialscopes, one 75' and one 95'. Go to "Our Trucks" and the dropdown menu has all Seagrave models listed. The website has recently been updated. Enjoy!
