This is the new Ziegler glassy crew cab on what I think is a former demo unit - with their familiar corporate yellow Z paint striping. Similar cabs with huge windows were pioneered in Brazil and are now very popular in several south American markets, but have only just started to show up in Germany.
The 10/10 is the latest variant of the old LF8, designed for German volunteer fire companies, but now with a more powerful pump and a 1000 liter tank. It is a lot bigger but also much more expensive, so a large number of the older LF8 trucks are still in daily use.
Kaiserslautern, a city of just over 100, 000 population, has 11 volunteer fire companies. Two of these provide manpower for the second and third alarm responses from the full-time central fire sation, and the others cover outlying districts from 5 to 8 miles outside the city center. Together, they have 116 full-time and around 230 volunteer personnel, with a total of no less than 60 (yes, 60) trucks, utilities, pods and trailers, including such fun items as a Liebherr 8X8 60 ton crane.
