Again thanks for the comments guys - its good to know there are people out there that appreciate a true classic ! restoration will consist of a slow clean, service and general tidying work for a start - and lets get her out and about and seen ! I take it from your comment regarding the ladder Peter that its a similar ladder to your light fours escape ?
Hi Rick, yes, more like the one it should have had. Mine was ordered with a 60' ladder (ladder ordered first) but I think the 60' would make Light 4 top heavy. I've also heard it suggested that during the war, Merryweather ladders were made in wood and steel? What's the serial number of the ladder? All the best with the polishing....

Hi Peter
I'll check the serial number next time I'm at the shed !....having studied a couple of 'in service' pictures I have it would appear the ladder is original to the vehicle !
According to 1st edition MoF Part 2 the Merryweather emergency ladders were wood. That is not to say post 1939 orders pre NFS ie not Home Office, weren't steel.
