The most expensive L car in history , a truly shocking waste of taxpayers money , and to make matters worse there are 2 of them! when oh when will they learn it wont work , we are in Britain not the states , we cannot afford these mistakes on the road to cost saving , these people were told they wouldnt work by the very people who know best - firefighters, but as usual we were ignored , fleet managers and senior procurement officers should be hung out to dry ! we now are in a state where brigades are left with no aerials apart from the sensible ones and are now trying to buy in a hurry , shocking is too kind a word

I assume now that they have this training vehicle, good ol 'dippy' ( 'DPY ) is leaving for pastures new?. Oh and Jim this is not a rebuild of the infamous ARP's. This is a brand new build!

Jim, what does 'FRS DTV/WRC' mean?

Out of interest, what makes this a waste of money? In theory, it seems a good idea to combine a Water Carrier (something that isnt, I presume, hugely busy) with a driver training vehicle. I expect if it did get a call one of the instructors could swap and do the EFAD bit if necessary?

Driver trainer DPY is staying , it will be used for a different class of driving from the new water carrier / driver training vehicle.

Stevie dippy (DPY) was still there on this FBS visit on that dsy. The training Instructor explained that LGV training vehicles have now got to have at least 5 tons of weight on them for realistic driving hence the combination of water carrier which this one has 5.ooo litres. Dippy has 5 tons of concrete blocks and a photo is on this site.

Why not use a reserve pump appliance for driver training?

Most brigades do, Rob. But Scotland's always been a law unto themselves, lol. Deep-fried battered pizza? Say no more!!!

I was once told that Scotland sets the standards, it doesn't follow them! Not so sure the deep fried pizza can be claimed as a Scottish first though ... but the deep fried Mars bar can!

It just seems very wasteful - when CFOs are under pressure to reduce costs wherever possible - to have dedicated units for driver training which are not even likely to be very useful operationally.

By the way, reserve units do not have to be all that different from appliances in daily use. Some fire services make a point of placing new units into their reserve pool to avoid the problem of firefighters who need to use reserve units being unfamiliar with them...

I know its 5 years later but what was the problem with combining a water tanker with a driver training vehicle ? and were they are a success ?
