Redditch Water tender call sign 2-7-3.

Picture taken during a random call at Redditch ( stn.27 )then Hereford & Worcester fire Brigade, in June 1984. The Water Ladder was also a Dennis RS 133, both looking good in the sunshine. This was one of the very first batch of six 'RS' appliances for the brigade, registrations ran from RUY 137V to RUY 142V. The latter serving at Worcester as 2-1-1 WrL.1 for many years.

We had RUY 139V at Kidderminster from 1979 as the WrL (2-4-1). After the previous Bedfords and Fords, the RS's were so spacious and easy to drive. Within about 6 months we also had YAB 255W (a second RS) as our WrT (2-4-3) and RUY 150V as the new HP (Dennis - Simon SS 263). S & D - Carmichael CUY 131S became the retained WrT (2-4-4). I doubt whether many stations would have such an up to date fleet all in one go these days?

Mel, were you related to the Mel Turbutt of Bewdley fire station in the 1970's? My dad was the Div. Cmdr then from 1969 to 1974 based at Kiddy. I have pictures of all the kiddy appliances you have listed Mel, I believe the HP RUY 150V was with the County Tipperary fire brigade up until last year, still on the run.

Kjb..The appliance at the British Sugar Fatory, was in fact the Dennis 'RS' appliance reg; RUY 139V, which was the water tender at Kidderminster call sign 2-4-3 for many years. A photograph of this pump is on this web-site picture 34304 that I uploaded a couple of day's ago.The Hereford & Worcester Fire Brigade donated it, in appreciation of the facilities used.Hope the info is helpful.
