It is. This generation of Bedfords had a single vertical division on the grille. The Austins had two, with horizintal bars between them, and a flatter center panel. Otherwise, the two did look a lot alike!
Thank's Richard for the photo, now can you or any of you gentlemen supply me with the following photo's. NFS fordson, Dodge dam unit and a Austin K4 TL , all must be of good quality hi-res for publication and full creditation will be given if used.Thank's
For the record, it is a Bedfore WLG Heavy Unit. It was registered in September 1939 and issued direct to the Auxiliary Fire Service. The pump is a swiss made Sulzer driven by a Ford V8 with a capacity of 1000 gallons per minute. The AFS logo is correct in design but I have used "poetic licence" with Bognor Regis.
The Home Office "Heavy Unit" specification called for a 700 GPM pump, but it seems the Sulzer was a higher capacity unit. Certainly the Ford V8 engine could handle a 1, 000 GPM pump, as it developed 150 BHP.
