Notice the new roof top monitor been put to good use and the feed arrangement via 2 reinforced hoses into a connection at the rear!
The later Dennis appliances had these monitors permantly plumbed in only requiring opening a valve.

Did Essex also have roof mounted moiniters at some stage ? great photo .

Possibly, but the only British pumpers that I know of were the Tyne and Wear ones and some of the Dennises which were supplied to Hong Kong; these had two roof monitors - and are illustrated on this site. Monitors are however not fitted to their current-generation pumps.
They are mandatory in the US, and are also quite common in Russia and central Europe, as well as south America. In Germany, they are a standard fitting on high-capacity water tenders, but not on general-purpose pumpers or pump-rescue trucks.
American fire departments use them frequently on major fires, especially to protect exposures, because they can be brought into action more quickly and have very high output - typically around 2000 liters per minute.

Essex did indeed have some Dennis appliances fitted remote controlled roof monitors. I believe they were some F reg and G reg appliances
