375 ALC Breakdown Lorry !

Taken c1971 in the yard of Central Fire Station, Corporation Street, Birmingham, UK. Part of Birmingham Fire & Ambulance Service. Converted from a Bedford Auxiliary Fire Service Breakdown Lorry (green) it was used as such cum Emergency Tender. It replaced an old Thorneycroft. This machine was based mostly at Perry Barr, Birmingham (Station 15) of 'A' Division. I rode it once.

Nice photos Tony. My Father was based at college Road, (Perry Barr) late 60's (ambulance cover). He has couple of nice colour photos of the Thorneycroft in green at Central which i'll post out of interest along with Fordson Salvage tender which members may find interesting.

I remember this when it was at A1 central. It was still in Green with AFS as they were still going. it was the only appliance to turn out while I was there.

for 373 ALC which was originally with Devon AFS see picture 33401. See also picture 705. 371 ALC was at Leigh, Lancashire in AFS days and then passed to Cheshire FB workshops.

ian,
I recall the old Thorneycroft at Stn A1 in 1965 for a year or so. Didn't know of the Fordson ST. When I was at Ladywood up to March 1972, we had a Bedford DK (DK)? Salvage Tender on the run. It towed a High-Ex Foam trailer. It was very nippy, swayed a bit but stuck to the road like glue!

Tony, The Salvage Tender was a Bedford TK looked basically like a large box van. I've posted a nice picture of a converted Bedford Heavy unit and a commer wheeled escape, must be more B'ham stuff out there..
