This design was intended to be able to replace the SW 2000 hose layer (as depicted in picture 44652) when carrying a PP and 2000 metres of 75mm hose, as well as having the flexibility to transport many other types of pre-loaded equipment baskets. In this way, old SW trucks could be replaced by a much more versatile multi purpose vehicle, although new SW units are still being supplied to some volunteer fire companies which are called on to furnish water relaying services. These are often being issued to them by state civil defense agencies.
