1994 Freightliner FL80/Firewolf 1250/800 Canaan Valley
Firewolf was a combination of German investors and 2 American entrepreneurs, who attempted to offer fire apparatus to both foreign and domestic buyers. A converted aircraft factory in Lakeland, Florida, built less than a dozen demo rigs of various types. The German investors ended their financing in 1995, and the remaining assets were sold to KME in 1996.
This rig was built as a rescue-pumper, however Canaan Valley, WVA VFC uses it as a regular engine.

Canaan Valley is a resort area in West Virginia; it seems to be popular for skiing and snowboarding, as well as warm-weather watersports (river rafting, etc.).

Would this area be part of the famous Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia.... I always think of the Laurel and Hardy song which epitomised this range

Very true, you may wish to check out their website to see their impressive 6x6 engine-tanker.

No, this is 100 miles west of Winchester, VA., Canaan Valley is deep in the Appalachians, about 30 miles due south of Oakland, MD.

That's a nice tanker. BTW - looking at the nose and zooming a bit, you can read a motto. Montani Semper Liberi (Latin for "Mountaineers are Always Free") is the official motto of the state of West Virginia, USA. (Thanks, as always, to wikipedia:-))

Warren - this looks like a rear mounted pump. I hope this company did not try to "sell" US departments on the idea of buying rear-mount pumps, because very few departments here have bought them.

Yes, a rear-mount pump.Actually, many rigs such as brush trucks, brushbreakers, attack and mini -pumpers have been used in the US for many years with rear-mounted pumps.Since 1988, various US builders such as Saulsbury, Grumman, and E1 have marketed rescue-pumpers with rear mount pumps, to limited or no success.E1 did sell a few after buying Saulsbury, combining the HUSH chassis with a Saulsbury body, but this model was ended by emissions law changes by 2007.S&S, a now defunct tanker builder, had a successful line of brush/attack rigs in the 1990s utilizing rear pumps.

Thanks Warren. I would have thought that with all the equipment being carried on rescue pumpers these days the rear-mounted pump would have gained more popularity, because it is so much more space-efficient - but it does not seem to be happening very often.

Mid mounts have all but disappeared in Europe: the only current example I can think of is Warsaw's E-One quint aerial ladder, but this is a fully-fledged US design (except for having the pump control panel on the right side).

Even the Australians, who used to love their mid-mount Internationals and Scanias, seem to be be moving over to rearmounts.

Japan of course continues to have almost exclusively mid-mount pumpers, because of their practice of carrying a hose cart in the rear compartment on their pumpers, and of course they do not have combination rescue pumpers and still operate a lot of separate rescue squad trucks because their rigs are just too small to combine a rescue squad with a pumper!
