New Zealand Iveco DST402 Wakefield

This was the second example of the now standard Iveco appliance to enter service in New Zealand. This 2005 example features a separate rear mounted engine for the pump and was new to Blenheim. It was snapped early in 2012 at a small grass fire near Brightwater in Nelson while serving with the Wakefield volunteer brigade.

Iveco Eurocargo units are used in many European countries with rear-mounted PTO pumps, including "pump-and-roll" applications for rural firefighting. Any idea why New Zealand finds it necessary to instal a separate pump engine?

Not sure why the idea came up as these appliances do not pump and roll and early example were plagued with cooling issues meaning a redesign. It was quickly removed and all the later built appliances have PTO pumps.
