People are allowed in lol, On a serious note I like the way this station looks as there are a few more that look similar unlike Bury Fire Station which looks stupid in orange...
PFI is 'private finance initiative' whereby private companies finance and build the project - then the occupier 'leases' the site for a set number of years -usually at a far greater cost to the occupier than if they had built it themselves and with far more restrictions to the sites use/maintainence - for example all of the abandoned regional control centres are under PFI 'initiatives' all are empty tet all are being rented for 25 years (I believe ?)paid for by the taxpayer !
Danny if people were'nt allowed in then how would the station operate ????
Rick is right they are now open to the community if they want to use the station for meeting etc as for PFI its private finance initative Private firm build the station then rents it back to the brigade over 25 years. There are a number of stations in the Northwest being built like this across Merseyside, Lancashire and Cumbria.
Fire stations should, and used to be 'open to the community' - we always used to get children peeping through the appliance bay doors and talking to firefighters when we were on duty - then solid doors were fitted with small high up windows making impossible to see in and giving a very mysterious look to the station - as if we were hiding from the public !
As for the public holding meetings in them - you then get the ridiculous situation that the same public then make a complaint because the turnout system or the appliances running during drill or standard testing 'causes noise' and interrupts the meeting ! modernisation is a wonderful thing !!!
