FM = "fourgon mixte" (multi-purpose truck). Pump is 2000 LPM at 20 bar, has water tank, 15 meter ladder, carries foam, 45MM, 70MM and 110MM hose. Crew 8. Used at major incidents. FM7 license plate indicates type and fleet number.
The truck types "FM" are currently being withdrawn within the Paris firefighters. Indeed they are replaced by "FPT" first generation built on basis Mercedes Atego.
Yes and no. Desire to reduce response teams do not come from a reduced need for personal, but a better distribution of roles. In France our firefighters operate mainly in pairs, one for the recognition and one for the fire attack. If necessary they can be supported by additional pairs comers other gear.
BSPP latest FPT are all on Renault chassis, and Renault now dominate the fleet, with a smaller number of Mercedes and older IVECO pumpers and ladders, and a trio of Scania APs - which are the only Scanias ever bought by BSPP, although a handful of other French SDIS have also bought a few.
