BSPP operates only nine of these, as it does not have extensive areas around the city requiring this type of unit, with its 4X4 drive configuration.

Their marine counterparts in Marseille face an entirely different problem, with the northern areas of the city built right into hilly, dry brush country.

They operate 43 dedicated Renault and Unimog off road pump tankers, as well as a trio of 13, 000 liter tankers - and both helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft - to address this danger.

They also add extra personnel to their 19 stations during the summer and autumn, when the vegetation dries out and hot winds from North Africa start to gather speed!
