Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service have teamed up with Liverpool Hospitals Primary Care Trust and Action on Cancer to promote awareness of one of the city's biggest killers. This former Old Swan appliance was painted with the assistance of the PCT and allocated to Kensington Fire Station where she responds to incidents. The idea came about when one of the station's crew lost his father to cancer and whilst visiting America he saw a pink fire appliance. I must say after seeing her on many occaisions speeding along Prescot Road it looks pretty impressive.

The trouble wth this paint job is I wouldn't know whether to get out of their way or give them a wave! Irrespective of how much good work it does for the cause, it's quite bizarre to think it remains operational looking like this; I don't like it at all. It could certainly confuse a stupid motorist. And we all know at least one of them!

Liverpool full of bad drivers. I think it is not a re-paint but a film that can be applied by heat gun and is removed the same way. saves a lot of cost. I know a lot of the ex members of the brigade do not like it, I am one.

Hi Eylp! Stockholm Firebrigade was doing the same thing with a older rescuepumper, and it toured between the stations! And I never heard a bad word about it!!! In my opinion, it's a good way, to collect money to the cancerfundations! And, IT'S not painted!

I'm glad it does a lot of good, Anders, really I am. But personally I don't think it is the fire service's job to promote cancer awareness. I wouldn't expect to see cancer doctors and nurses wearing t-shirts urging me to check my smoke alarm!!!
And yes I know it's not a paint job: In a previous life I spent many years wrapping commercial fleet vehicles with vinyl and applying jazzy graphics. And many people within the industry still refer to it as a paint job. I guess it's a lot easier to say than a vinyl-wrapping-and-graphic application-job! And it may well be quicker and easier than re-spraying, but, trust me, it's not that much cheaper. Vinyl/graphics companies make an absolute fortune doing this sort of thing.
