This open design with two rows of individual comfy armchairs for crew members was an unique fire truck feature in Portugal for many years, before they became some of the first to build enclosed bodies.
It must have been a lot safer and more comfortable than the British Braidwood bodies, the European trucks with their sideways-facing seats or the American trucks - where riders had to stand on the running boards or the back step in those days!
