A very large number of appliances! Does it serve a large district?

Spain tends to have large fire stations with multiple appliances spaced relatively far apart.

One reason for the large numbers of appliances is that - like other southern European countries - most fire stations have a large fleet of wildland fire pump-tankers as well as pumpers, ladders and rescue trucks intended for urban and highway use.

Except in major cities, the fire service also relies heavily on volunteers to support the full-time personnel, who only work one day in five! Many of these volunteers are engaged seasonally to serve only during the summer and autumnal fire season.
