ALF Discovered in Australia

Mid-County FD E50

It appears the beacons are not the originals unfortunately and other items have been misplaced, but overall the apparatus is in extremely sound condition. I wonder what her new owner intend for her future? What say the firemen who rode and worked her all those years ago,,??!!

Don't worry about it Pav, I don't need to know THAT bad. Besides, if I get curious enough, I'll bet there is somebody in the US who knows the story.

TheFireman, Okay, I'm on the case. I've been to the yard where these photos were taken, turns out is quarantine depot where they clean imported vehicles from overseas. The ALF has flown the coop!!!???

Don't panic, I'm onto it, I'm following up on some strong leads, , , , Would anyone know the manufacture year of this apparatus?? And, is Mid-County Fire Dept in New York State? And are they the original rotating beacons? And would this truck have had a mid-mount cannon or tele-squirt, squasher, or what-ever?? Thanks in anticipation, ,

ALF Perth is now safely tucked up in undercover storage awaiting refurbishment. Imported into Western Australia by one of the country's leading urologists and fire engine enthusiasts, who says his intension is to bring the apparatus back to pristine condition to enable him to provide fire engine rides for children with cerebral palsy. Watch this space for further photos and news, , , ,

If anyone from Mid-County Fire Dept could supply photos of this engine to the site or myself it would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

A big thanks to John Harris of Sevierville TN for providing photo of Engine 50 and contact details of Chief Jerry Doyle, Midcounty Fire Dept. which I have passed on to Dr Daryl Stephens.

We had a twin in Manhasset-Lakeville VFD on Long Island. It was acquired in 1985, although this design goes back to much earlier. The "swelling" in the rear of the cab was a bright idea at the time, so that normal-sized firefighters could actually sit in the jump seats next to the truck's engine. The previous series' seats were so narrow, that most people ignored the jump seats and rode to the fire standing up! All of these had deck guns, to meet USA NFPA requirements, but I think very few had squirts. Despite the four wipers, visibility through the front corners of the windshield was very problematic in heavy rain or snow, which made entering intersections in our heavily built-up town center quite an adventure. This is a classic "Alfie" - not least because it is really only a modest update of a design introduced in the late 1940s.
