Several of FDNY's operational fire houses are actually even older than the museum!

The oldest is Engine 228, which was built in 1891.

As these were built for much smaller horse drawn apparatus, it is often a tight squeeze to fit modern vehicles in them, especially aerials....

I am sometimes reminded of the old 1904 Borough Road fire station in my home town Darlington. The four appliances had to park so close together that their doors could not be opened at the same time!
