Leyland FT3A 1937 DHY 496

The business end of Ex Bristol Fire Brigade Leyland pump DHY 496 after restoration, February 2012.
For the purists, I realise that she ran with a three way collecting head but I can't find a 6 inch example.
The red light is a reflection from the flash.

This is a beautiful piece of equipment. Is the hatch above the pump for hard suctions? What year is it?

Hi Les,
Thanks for the comment. She was built in 1937 and saw service until about 1963.
She has either a 900 or 1000 gallons per minute pump (conflicting information so not sure which). The story goes that she pumped water from Bristol docks continuously for 5 days during the Bristol Blitz.
The hatch that you mention is only for getting at the pump. It looks as if it should be for a lot more!.
The hard suction was carried in the foot lockers on each side.
Best wishes,
Richard
