What does 2X4 and 6X4 mean? Are these not both all wheel drive?

NCZ 1772 Fire 1 is actually a 4x4 all 4 wheels drive. 1774 is a 6x6 all six wheels drive How do I know!!? I used to drive them and was a Watch commander on that Airport Fire service.4x2 means 4 wheel but only 2 drive
