This 1972 D600 served at several brigade including Akaroa, New Brighton & Arthurs Pass. It is now owned by the New Brighton volunteer fire brigade & has been restored.
Antipodean solution to fire pump design. British chassis, rear mounted pumnp, unpainted alloy bodywork, but a North American style canopy cab.
The original Ford tilting cab feature is preserved, the rear crew seat is full-width, and there is lots of headroom, unless anyone stands under the ladder! It really does look just like a 90% scale version of its American cousin, the Ford C Series.
This was also the good old days, before the NZ fire service discovered tape stripes, chevrons and seven different colors to "decorate" their vehicles.
