I always thought these enormous American rescue trucks were a rather odd choice for UK fire services, as their payload weight capacity and available storage space were so much less than similarly dimensional European chassis. The smaller Mercedes Vario eight ton van was used by numerous fire services Worldwide as a light rescue, and - although I have no proof - I seriously doubt if any of them cast off their prop shaft through the windscreen of another vehicle!
