Extremely rare - one of only three Dennis F8 appliances that were built as PEs.

Unusual for a F8 to carry an escape ladder, obviously more suitable for the narrow roads of Jersey

One of the PE's was of Northern Area Fire Brigade (Highlands&Islands)and there is a B&W photo of this on the inside cover of An Illustrated History of Fire Engines by Roger C. Mardon published by Ian Allan published in 2001.

Michael:

A question, if I may.

The standard F8 had either a 200 or 300 gallon tank.

Did these F8s which carried escapes have the tank reduced to the contemporary JCDD 100 gallons, to accommodate the extra weight of the heavy wooden 50 foot wheeled ladder?

From the picture, it looks a bit as if the water tank was relocated low down below the front locker. If so, this would have helped a bit to avoid making the appliance too top-heavy.

Chassis No;3619, supplied 31/10/52, to WPO 40351, to carry Merryweather "Telescala" Escape, sorry tank capacity not known.
