Holyhead's Mercedes at the beggining of the Breakwater, I've no idea what it was doing, apart from taking sea water and pumping it back out.

Will the salt water not have any effect on the pump? are they designed with this in mind?

When using sea water through a pump it would always be flushed through after using water from an hydrant in the street, or on return to station through the stations hydrant.
