Why white? Its stupid. The scania is definatley the best type of fire appliance in the UK, in my opinion. I used to be a volvo lover, but there is no comparison between them now.
Grampian Fire and Rescue chose white for their appliances after a road saftey study indicated the safest colour for vehicle visibility was either white or yellow. Since new fire appliances arrive from manufactures in base coat white, Grampian decided to not paint their appliances the flouresent red they used to use and just keep the white. Unofficially when the appliances came on the run in 1998, there was budget cuts so to save money they decided to not paint the new appliances! There are not many red appliances left in Grampian now.
Regarding the last comment in which I agree that the white colour is of more significance and that all ambulance vehicles in Scotland will now adopt the European yellow brading. How do Grampian Fire And Rescue Vehicles not have the red and yellow chequers for increased visibility that other UK fire services have adopted.
white become dangerous in snow conditions. in Cuerpo de Bomberos de Punta Arenas, Chile. we have a heavy rescue truck in white, but it must be painted because of the weather.
Aberdonians like to save money is my best guess on the colour, as for scania, good looking but they lean a bit on corners are none too fast and are a bit on the high side to get in and out but then scania are buying heavily into the fire market with astronomical deals
I think they make a great delivery lorry, but having ridden in both the Dennis and Scania, the Dennis wins hands down, but like Big Al said, Scania are doing some mighty deals, which is not good news for Dennis.
And I think you will find that despite the EU regs, Ambulances have and wil remain white for sometime. And does it matter how they look, they will all end up wi bashes and dents due to over keen drivers thinking they are in an F1 car not an over weight water carrier. Yeah I think they look ok, but HIFB engines are miles better when it comes to looks - go find pics of new Highland trucks.
