Saint Gilles Croix de Vie firestation

In this picture you can see the fire station of Saint Gilles Croix de Vie, on the Atlantic coast of France. The telephone number "18" used to join free firefighters are reminded in very large letters on the tower. This one also has antennas on the roof of the various communications systems used by firefighters.

This coastal town has a population of around 7, 000, but its fire station also covers a sizeable surrounding area. There are around 40 full time firefighter/EMTs and approximately another 40 unpaid operational volunteers assigned to it.

They staff a minor alarm van, one pump water tender, a brush pumper, an aerial ladder, a rescue tender, a dive team van, a Land-rover with boat trailer for water rescue, a command van and three BLs ambulances, responding to around eight EMS, rescue and fire calls a day - with the busiest work load in the summer holiday season.
