Most French specials, like this one, are configured around small vans. The philosophy is quite understandably to have large numbers of small units rather than widely-dispersed full-size vehicles, which will take longer to respond.

This is another reason the WLF-AB (prime mover + pod) solution is relatively less popular in France than in Germany and other more densely-populated countries.

At large fires in Paris, there are often whole fleets of busy little special purpose vans like this Master on scene - perhaps another advantage is that they can squeeze through the streets and traffic to get to the incident reasonably quickly.
