This man y-412975 l took today around dinner time in hohne camp germany has you can see it's just park up, it's a 4x4 man from Feuerwehry bergen station.
So you say that German pumps usually have 5 to 7 men.9 men counting the driver and officer! Well, this is certainly a first for me. All the new NSWFB engines here in Australia have a total crew of 5 men: driver, officer and 3 men, so any major fire means many pumps have to respond to make up for this. I have also heard that some of the NSWFB's trucks elsewhere in New South Wales are responding with as few as 4 men total, including driver and officer, and some even turn out with just 3 men aboard! This is certainly a very unusual number of men in an age of "do more with the bare minimum amount of men and resources". Thanks once again and do you know how the German Fire Service can afford to staff engines with suc large number of men?
We need to distinguish between full-time and volunteer brigades in Germany. Very few cities under 100, 000 population have full-time brigades, because the numbers of calls and actual fires tend to be very low. Volunteer stations usually include at least one pumper with 9 person crew accommodation, but of course, there is no payroll expense. Full-time pumpers normally have a six man crew, but the number of pumpers is much smaller. Berlin, for example, with 3.4 million population has only 34 full-time pumps, but there are also more than 150 pumps manned by volunteers, who provide first response in the outer suburbs and second-alarm response in the central areas of the city. German law only requires a first-alarm response time of 12 minutes, which also helps explain why cities rely so heavily on volunteers. With most buildings constructed in reinforced concrete, typical fire loads are low and serious fires are rare.
Hi everbody! The german F&Rs rides in 3 sizes of cabs!1 Trupp=3, 2 Staffel=6, Grupp=9. The driver is also pumpoperator, from the first day in fireservice, to the day the person, goes to retierment! It´s the same thing for the rest of the crew! In Germany, you have to learn everything at fireschools, and after that be a specalist of ONE thing!! It could be as Driver/pumpoperator, Driver/ladderoperator, BA-carrier.That´s way they has to be so many at a fire! In the german Feuerwehrmagazin, there was an article about a fire in a 2 story house. When I started to count how many firepersons, that was there. I came to the sum of 120! Yes, you read it right, 120! AND, it was 25 vehicles on scene!!!
