"Fourgon-pompe tonne" = "pumper truck with tank"

If you look really carefully at the hose carts, you can see two additional short lengths of 45mm attack hose and a variable output branch attached to each cart. These are additional to the ten 20 meter lengths of 65mm hose. They enable very rapid deployment of the 45mm lines, which are normally used for initial attack, especially at structure fires.

The FPT has a 3000 liter tank, which means that a 45mm line can be operated for around seven or eight minutes before a hydrant needs to be opened up.

Note also the extensive ground ladder selection. This always includes a lightweight 15 meter three-section extension ladder and a fixed hook ladder.

Like the hose carts, these are standard on Paris' pumpers, and they get a lot of use! Only last month three persons living in rear courtyards were rescued by hook ladder - nothing else could be used to reach them.

BSPP's soldier-firemen are mostly young men in their twenties and early thirties, and are unusually physically fit and agile. They love hook ladder drills and are almost in the category of circus acrobats when it comes to ladder work!

This series were built by Desautel on Atego chassis, and include a very spacious tilting crew cab. Perhaps London should have asked them for a quote for their latest series of Atego pumps!
